Allen Cordoba, SS, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $2,000

Why He Will Go Overlooked:

Trea Turner is expected to be out until the weekend for the Washington Nationals, so the most expensive option on the main slate is out of play. Chris Owings and Taylor Motter, who are both averaging nearly double-digit FanDuel points per game this year (9.71 and 10.12, respectively), could see high ownership, but the slate is definitely a tricky one to navigate for shortstops.

One guy who is probably off the radar for many DFS players is San Diego Padres Rule-5 pick Allen Cordoba. With only 19 plate appearances on the season and squaring off against Arizona Diamondbacks lefty Patrick Corbin, who's been strong to start the year by traditional metrics (2.81 ERA), Cordoba could go ignored in tonight's tilt at Petco Park.

Why You Should Use Him:

Corbin has come out of the gate strong in his first few appearances, but there are some red flags. His strikeout rate and walk rate are identical (9.1%), and his 5.46 SIERA indicates that he's pitched a lot worse than his 2.81 ERA would have you believe.

Corbin's also struggled against righties so far in 2017 -- while he's been strong against left-handed bats (.293 wOBA), right-handed bats have fared far better (.353 wOBA).

Cordoba's logged a .353 average and a 10.5% walk rate to start 2017, although the sample size is a meager 19 plate appearances. In 220 plate appearances last season in the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system, he posted a .420 wOBA.

If Cordoba is in the lineup and manning the second spot, which he did last night, he provides a very cheap option with upside potential thanks to his spot at the top of the order.
