9. Geno Smith, 2013

As a rookie, Geno Smith posted an eerily similar stat line as his predecessor on this list, Mark Sanchez, did in 2009, completing 55.8 percent of his throws with 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. The team also finished with a nearly identical record in 2013 at 8-8. The team’s defense dropped off a bit from 2009, but still finished 13th in Adjusted Defensive NEP at season’s end.

Smith did log 65 rushing attempts in 2013, notching a 0.38 Rushing NEP per play mark, which buoyed his overall efficiency a bit.

Our own JJ Zachariason noted that based on historical analysis of rookie quarterbacks, Smith was highly unlikely to thrive following his poor rookie campaign. Banking on a miraculous comeback from Smith at some point in the near future is unwise based on historical outcomes.
