Shaun Hill, QB, Minnesota Vikings

Shaun Hill currently occupies the Minnesota Vikings’ backup quarterback spot at no meager cost of $3.25 million against the salary cap for the 2016 season. This isn’t oodles of money, considering that the recent signings of Brock Osweiler ($12 million cap hit), Robert Griffin III ($5.05 million cap hit), and Chase Daniel ($5 million cap hit) have made him just the 33rd-highest paid veteran quarterback in the NFL.

That said, he’s produced a meager 0.04 Passing NEP per drop back (the league average for quarterbacks was 0.11 in 2015) across his 271 drop backs, which makes him a tempting roster cut for any general manager in favor of salary cap austerity. With second-year passer Taylor Heinicke and rookie Joel Stave pushing him in camp and no dead money in his contract, Hill’s roster spot is no guarantee.
