This certainly isn't an immediate need, as the Patriots depth chart returns starters Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell, and Danny Amendola. The problem is how barren that chart is behind these three studs, if they want to sustain their near-perpetual top-five ranking in Adjusted Passing NEP. Hypothetically, Aaron Dobson is the best option after them, but injury and poor hands have seen him relegated to the bench and reserves in the past two years. Other than Dobson, the only contributors of note are undrafted 2014 free agent Brian Tyms and 2013 4th-round selection Josh Boyce, both deep-field runners and not much else. Given a few years, or a few injuries, and the Patriots' corps could be pretty rough indeed.

Another year, another draft sees the New England Patriots leave without any semblance of an attempt at addressing their needs at wide receiver. The Pats are seemingly content to hunt for pennies on the street than even consider opening the wallet to draft a highly-touted receiver prospect. They did sign former Dolphins' slot man Brandon Gibson and picked up undrafted rookie Chris Harper out of California. Neither of these two are sure roster locks, let alone real contributors.
