The San Francisco 49ers may be down to two running backs this weekend if Matt Breida is held out for precautionary reasons. Breida played five snaps against the Los Angeles Rams before exiting the game after a re-aggravation of his ankle injury. The 49ers currently have two running backs on the roster, both of which split time in last week's game.

Raheem Mostert is the back we should be targeting, based on his increased role within the offense recently. Mostert has been largely a part-time player this season, so season-long statistics don't paint the total picture. In his past two weeks, however, Mostert split touches with Breida, having 12 and 11, respectively. During the two-week period in which Mostert has been involved, he's compiled 19 carries for 146 yards.

The Arizona Cardinals' rushing defense has been abysmal this year, and some of that can be attributed to game script, but they are league-worst in running back carries, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. The 49ers quietly have a top-five rushing offensive line, according to Football Outsiders, so San Fran can take advantage of the matchup

In a game where Mostert has a low probability of being victimized to game flow, he should have a nice day against one of the league's worst run defenses.
