Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions

DraftKings Price: $4,500

Projected Points: 8.81

Projected Value (points per $1,000): 1.96

Running back value is hard to scrape up this week, as most who are priced underneath $5,000 are split in a time share or poor game scripts. However, we might have a reduced committee this week with Theo Riddick missing Wednesday's practice (knee), which is particularly concerning considering the Detroit Lions are coming off the bye. Kerryon Johnson will be the target to roster in this backfield.

Riddick has averaged 40% of the team's snaps and 6.2 touches per game. LeGarrette Blount's role has been on a steady decline week to week, having 18, 9, 7, and 4 touches in the 4 most recent games. Blount is not a pass-catching back, and Riddick's six targets per game should be Johnson's to take. This is a lot of usage for him to absorb, especially targets that are crucial when playing in ppr formats.

On the limited playing time Kerryon has gotten, he's been the far superior running backm as he has the best back by Rushing Net Expected Points, with 7.72, while Blount is the worst (-7.25). Johnson's 50 carries have also resulted in a Success Rate that ranks 10th of all qualified backs. There shouldn't be a reason to take Johnson off the field in favor of Blount.

Our projections show Detroit beating the Miami Dolphins in this game, which should provide a solid game script for Johnson. They are currently projected for 114.98 rush yards, and a large share of that should be Johnson's.

Injury situations are fluid and will be worth monitoring with value being thin at the running back position, so make sure to review the practice reports to see if Riddick is on track to play. If Riddick does play, then this will be a situation to fade as three-headed backfields are suboptimal for DFS purposes.
