Receiving Market Shares

1. Keenan Allen Is Back to His Usual Ways

On Sunday, Keenan Allen saw a 33 percent target share for the Los Angeles Chargers. That market share was behind only Odell Beckham and Antonio Brown for Week 5, according to airyards.com.

Allen’s target market share was up in Week 5 from his season-average of 27 percent.

He is the perfect receiver to target in trades. After a stellar start to the season in Week 1, when he had 8 grabs for 108 yards and 1 touchdown, Allen’s production dipped to 6, 3 and 7 receptions in Weeks 2 to 4, without clearing 63 yards in any of the games.

In Week 5, the Chargers made an effort to force feed Allen, and it paid off. Without a touchdown since Week 1, Allen’s output looks weaker compared to other top receivers and may make him easier to acquire in trades.

2. Jarvis Landry Is a Volume Stud

Jarvis Landry is tied for 7th in receiver targets with 54 and has a nearly 30 percent target share. While he saw a dip in his share in Week 5 -- to 21 percent -- against the Baltimore Ravens, he still saw 9 targets.

Landry is averaging over 10 targets per game and has only a 50 percent catch rate. Not all the opportunities coming his way have been advantageous.

But with rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield under center, Landry’s targets have remained constant.

Landry is averaging only 6.82 yards per target through five games. But the astounding part is in those same games and targets, he’s averaging 12.84 yards per reception. When he gets the ball in his hands, he’s doubling up his yardage after the catch.
