Running Back Market Shares

1. Chris Carson Takes the Lead in Seattle

Chris Carson reasserted himself firmly into the Seattle Seahawks' top running back spot with a 19 carry, 119-yard day in Week 5, which nearly replicated his Week 3 workload, when he also saw the largest share of backfield duties.

Carson sits 12th in running back rush attempts with 64, and he has 70 total touches, averaging 5.1 yards per game. With Rashaad Penny relegated to special teams, Carson’s only competition is his own health and Mike Davis.

Davis filled in admirably in Week 4, when Carson was injured, but he immediately took a back seat to a healthy Carson again in Week 5. Davis has 44 touches this season and is averaging 4.7 yards per touch, per Pro-Football-Reference.

The backfield is a split, but on Sunday, Davis had 14 touches while Carson had 20.

Seattle made a concerted effort to go run-heavy against the Rams despite the shootout game script. Russell Wilson attempted only 21 passes while Seattle rushed 32 times. Carson is going to be an every-week fantasy producer as long as he maintains the lead role.

2. T.J. Yeldon Serving as Jacksonville's Workhorse

With Leonard Fournette out, T.J. Yeldon handled the majority of running back touches in Week 5. Fournette is also expected to miss Week 6.

On Sunday, Yeldon’s rushing bottom line (10 attempts, 53 yards) suffered from a play-from-behind game script when the Kansas City Chiefs quickly jumped out on the Jacksonville Jaguars. But on the other hand, Yeldon caught 8 passes, for 69 yards and 1 touchdown on 10 targets.

His 18 touches on Sunday have him up near Saquon Barkley, Sony Michel and Carlos Hyde in terms of workload. That's getting close to the top-end of fantasy running back territory.

In games that Fournette has missed or been injured (Weeks 2, 3 and 5), Yeldon has 17, 21 and 18 touches. The rest of the Jags' backs combined for 7, 5 and 3 attempts in the same games.

The Jaguars signed Jamaal Charles for depth behind Yeldon, but for now, Yeldon has the lion's share of the work in Jacksonville.
