Fantasy Football: 3 Players You Can Drop After Week 12

Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Yahoo Ownership: 43%

Tyler Lockett is exactly the kind of player you'd want to have had stashed on your bench up until this point. With blazing speed, a chance at the number-two receiving role in a pass-heavy offense, the occasional rushing opportunity, and even a dash of punt-return duties, his upside is clear.

Had things materialized as you hoped, your waiver-wire scoop of Lockett earlier this season would have made you look really good. But sometimes the process, while sound, doesn't work out. By now, it's clear that for your fantasy playoff push, Lockett is an untrustable option.

For a receiver with deep-threat prowess, Lockett's 0.58 Reception NEP per target has been thoroughly underwhelming, ranking 46th among the 62 receivers with at least 50 targets this season. His 79% Reception Success Rate also ranks 46th among that same cohort, whereas teammate Paul Richardson, a player with a similar athletic build and skill set, ranks first in that same category.

After seeing at least seven looks in three straight games from Week 7 to Week 9, Lockett hasn't hit more than five targets in a game since, accumulating a measly one target -- that he didn't catch -- in Week 12. Meanwhile, Richardson's compiled two straight games of at least seven targets.

With what appears to be a decline in volume and an overall underwhelming performance when given chances this season, Lockett's theoretical upside is no longer a justifiable reason to keep him stashed. Drop him for Josh Doctson or Dede Westbrook, two high-upside options with a larger role in their respective offenses.
