Maxx Williams, TE, Baltimore Ravens

It was just two years ago when Maxx Williams was considered to be far and away the best tight end prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Baltimore Ravens scooped him up in the second round, and although he struggled with the adjustment in his rookie season, there were still high hopes for the young player as he continued in his development.

A significant knee injury changed all of that. The surgery was so significant that the team has indicated that no player in NFL history has ever returned to play following the procedure, although they have refused to disclose the specifics. And there is no doubt that Williams doesn't look like the same athlete many considered him to be coming out of Minnesota.

Still, his 40-yard catch-and-run against the Miami Dolphins in the preseason showcased that his career isn't dead yet, and there may still be hope for Williams, especially considering how attrition has destroyed his competition at the position. The Ravens have already lost Dennis Pitta (hip), Darren Waller (suspension) and Crockett Gillmore (knee) for the season, leaving a 36-year-old Benjamin Watson, who is returning from an Achilles tear last season, as the likely starter.

In addition, the Ravens will be looking to replace 195 lost targets from the tight end and fullback position alone, in addition to the combined 151 lost targets from the retired Steve Smith and the departed Kamar Aiken. This is a team searching for playmakers.

The Ravens are clearly not ready to give up on Williams just yet, and if he can continue to demonstrate he has returned to form this preseason, he will be a player to monitor for dynasty leagues.
