Ty Montgomery, RB, Green Bay Packers

Opposing Defenses: 4th Easiest

Opposing Rush Defenses: 11th Easiest

Ty Montgomery is a polarizing player with debate surrounding whether he can step up and seize the every-down running back role for the Green Bay Packers or lose significant playing time to rookies Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones.

Per the metrics here at numberFire, Montgomery was impressive last year when thrust into action as the Packers' starting running back. Of the 68 backs with at least 50 carries, Montgomery ranked 14th in our Rushing NEP per carry metric with a clip of 0.08. He also ranked 17th in Rushing Success Rate (45.45%) -- the percentage of carries which positively impacted NEP -- in that same sample of players.

Should Montgomery take hold of the starting gig, the Packers schedule sets up nicely for him.

The Packers will face the 11th-easiest schedule of opposing run defenses and the 4th-easiest schedule overall. Green Bay also has one of the easiest late-season schedules. From Week 9 through Week 16, the Packers will take on the Lions, Bears, Steelers and Browns -- teams that have defenses which rank outside our top 20 in projected Defensive NEP.

Montgomery has shown the talent to be a quality running back, and he has the schedule to have a big year in 2017.
