Donte Moncrief Is Incredibly Touchdown Dependent

The good times are rolling for Donte Moncrief owners these days. After six-week hiatus on the shelf with a fractured scapula, Moncrief has been back for a full three games now. And in each of those three games, he's reached the end zone. Great, right?

Well, it all depends on how you look at it. Scoring touchdowns are primarily an opportunity statistic, and Moncrief is certainly receiving said opportunity, accounting for 36% of the Colts' red zone targets since his return in Week 8. Those numbers are worth salivating over, and they are making owners who were patient enough to hold on to him through his injury hiatus very happy.

But the flip side of Moncrief's performances this season has been his incredibly high level of touchdown dependency. In standard scoring leagues, 53.9% of Moncrief's fantasy production has come from touchdowns.

Moncrief hasn't eclipsed 64 receiving yards once in any of the four games that he's finished this season. And while his team red zone target share is awesome, his 18.75% target share prior to the 20-yard line is far less awesome. By comparison, T.Y. Hilton is garnering 26.2% of team targets outside of the red zone since Moncrief's return.

Moncrief has the size/speed combination that suggests he could be a big play threat, but that athleticism hasn't translated into big plays yet this season. If he ever meets a game where he doesn't find the end zone -- and odds say that'll happen -- his fantasy football floor could be scary.
