New York Giants Passing Offense

Truthfully, both sides of this game have a ton of appeal, and it'd be in your best interest to consider some game stacks involving the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants. The pace will fly, and both defenses have a boatload of injuries in the secondary. We'll stick with the Giants for this discussion, though, because you likely don't need much goading to target the Packers at home.

Based on how the discourse has gone this week, you'd think the Giants' passing offense was in shambles. Eli Manning hasn't finished as a top-12 weekly scorer at quarterback yet, and he has been 24th or lower twice.

Then there's Odell Beckham, who has more fights with kicking nets than he has touchdowns this season. He's also always just a few flags away from an ejection, landing you with a big ol', high-cost goose egg. There's just not a lot to love here at all.

And yet, even with all of the grossness the Giants have endured, they're still 14th in Adjusted Passing NEP per play. It may not be great, but it's not nearly as bad as the perception makes it seem.

Now, the Giants get a matchup with the Packers, who currently sit 29th against the pass, according to numberFire's metrics. A big part of that stems from the injury to Sam Shields, who has missed the past two games with a concussion. Shields did not practice Wednesday, and if he can't go again on Sunday, the Packers' defense could continue to struggle.

With Shields out of the lineup, opposing top receivers have absolutely gashed the Packers. Stefon Diggs turned 11 targets into 9 receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown, and Marvin Jones' 6 receptions netted him 205 yards and a pair of scores. Both of those guys finished as the week's top-scoring receivers, and Beckham has the potential to do so again if Shields remains shelved.

If you decide to skew away from Beckham but would like exposure to the high pace, Sterling Shepard is still a great option. He had just 4 receptions for 30 yards in Week 4, but it was also his third consecutive game with at least seven targets, and he played 94% of the team's snaps. Victor Cruz played all 66 of the snaps, putting him in play, too, but Shepard appears to be the more reliable option.

As for Manning, he's still ninth in Success Rate among qualified quarterbacks, so it has to happen some time, right? Right?

If that doesn't scream "Touchdown regression" to you, then you likely still have your sanity, meaning you didn't roster Eli in Week 2 or Week 3. I, however, did do that, meaning sanity is a fallacy, and I'll be diving right back in the waters once again if Shields is out for the Packers.
