3 NBA DraftKings Value Plays to Target on 1/5/21

A major key to success in daily fantasy basketball is uncovering potential value plays. If you're looking to roster a stud or two, you need to consider squeezing one of these lower-priced options into your lineup.

Let's take a look at three players who can help fill in the gaps in your lineup on DraftKings tonight.

Monte Morris, PG, Denver Nuggets

DraftKings Price: $4,800

With Michael Porter Jr. in the league's health and safety protocols, the Denver Nuggets have had to do some maneuvering with their lineups. While Will Barton has stepped into a starter's role, they have been using a variety of smaller combinations, benefiting a guy like Monte Morris.

In the last two games, Denver has played Morris and Jamal Murray together for nearly 20 minutes per game. And although Murray has been scoring hot from all over the place, the Nuggets' backup point guard has put up 17.25 and 24.25 DK points in those two games. He's played 30 and 29 minutes, respectively.

Morris is a lock for at least 25 to 28 minutes, but he has the potential to play more than 30 here. The home Nuggets are favored by 11.5 points at FanDuel Sportsbook, and that could lead to a blowout which would see more time for Morris in the backcourt.

Gary Trent Jr., SG/SF, Portland Trail Blazers

DraftKings Price: $4,200

Like the Nuggets, the Portland Trail Blazers are set to be double-digit favorites on Tuesday night. The Chicago Bulls are in town, allowing 121.3 points per game and losing by an average of 17.5 points in their four losses. Either way, the matchup plays right into the hands of Gary Trent Jr.

Coming off an impressive 2020, Trent is averaging 2.8 threes en route to 11.5 points per game over his 21.8 minutes. His 47.8% shooting from deep is up there with the best the league has to offer.

Meanwhile, Chicago is giving up the fifth-most three-point makes a game (14.0) on a top-10 three-point attempt rate. This could be a big bounce-back night for Trent from beyond the arc.

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, SF, Brooklyn Nets

DraftKings Price: $3,700

On Tuesday night, the Brooklyn Nets are expected to be without All-Star Kevin Durant, who will quarantine after being deemed a close contact to a positive test. It could be Caris LeVert or Taurean Prince entering the lineup at the four, but either way Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will be asked to do more from his small forward spot.

Luwawu-Cabarrot has started every game since Spencer Dinwiddie went down with an ACL injury, and over that four-game span he's averaged nearly 28 minutes of floor time. He's come up with two fantasy duds during that stretch, but he's bookended those with outings of 37.0 and 22.5 DK points. At his low price, that's more than enough to justify his spot in your lineup.

TLC and company have a tough matchup with the Utah Jazz, but 18.5 DK points would do the trick and leave enough room for you to fit in today's studs. You could do a lot worse on just a five-game slate.
