3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 3/8/18

The Spurs will likely be a popular source of value tonight, but our models don't forecast a big game for Kyle Anderson.

In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?

Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it takes only one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference between winning and losing your contests. Which players should we avoid tonight?

DeMarre Carroll, SF, Brooklyn Nets

FanDuel Price: $6,300

Most players have a rough night or two coming off the All-Star Break, and in DeMarre Carroll's last game against the Charlotte Hornets a few weeks ago, he was no exception. Carroll shot 2 for 11 with 6 points and 5 rebounds in his first game back from the break, and he could struggle again tonight in another matchup against Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

Kidd-Gilchrist is limiting players he defends to 45.9% shooting from the floor and 39.4% shooting outside 15 feet. As a team, Charlotte is holding small forwards to 0.84 FanDuel points per minute. On top of that, Carroll has struggled on the road this season, shooting 40.5% from the floor and 32.9% from beyond the arc.

Kyle Anderson, SF, San Antonio Spurs

FanDuel Price: $6,200

Kyle Anderson dropped 20 real-world points with a full line the last time he played the Golden State Warriors, and he ended up in that night's perfect FanDuel lineup because of the performance. However, with Rudy Gay back healthy for this matchup, Anderson could end up a landmine on the five-game Thursday slate.

Our models project Anderson for 24.3 FanDuel points Thursday, which is far from the 30-plus he needs to payoff his $6,200 salary. Having to defend Kevin Durant is one thing, but even though Anderson got the better of KD last time out, Durant has been outstanding on defense this season. KD is holding players he defends to just 41.8% shooting from the floor.

Josh Richardson, SF, Miami Heat

FanDuel Price: $6,000

Josh Richardson has attempted only 15 field goals over the Miami Heat's last two games, and while that could change Thursday, he'll have have to do it in a tough matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers are holding small forwards to 0.83 FanDuel points per minute, and Richardson has struggled over his last three games against Philadelphia, shooting a combined 10 for 27 from the floor. He averaged only 22.8 FanDuel points per game in those three, and tonight our models project Richardson for 25.6 FanDuel points.
