3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 1/23/17
In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?
Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it only takes one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference from winning or losing your contests.
James Johnson, PF, Miami Heat
FanDuel Price: $5,900
James Johnson has lost some of his luster in DFS, and now that the Miami Heat are getting healthier, he is starting to see his usage and role diminish slightly.
His minutes have still been up, but now with another battle against Draymond Green ahead of him tonight, Johnson is not the type of player I'm looking to roster at power forward.
Green is holding opposing power forwards to 0.89 FanDuel points per minute and just 41.5% shooting from the floor this season. Considering Johnson had a good, but not great game against Green a few weeks ago, I'm not banking on a bigger performance than the 27.4 FanDuel points he put up last time against the Golden State Warriors.
Trevor Booker, PF, Brooklyn Nets
FanDuel Price: $5,300
The last time Trevor Booker went up against the San Antonio Spurs, he posted only 14.8 FanDuel points in 27 minutes. While he may not be that big of a landmine tonight, his second game against the Spurs this season is not one you'll want to target in DFS.
The Spurs are holding opposing power forwards 0.82 FanDuel points per minute, and a lot of it has to do with LaMarcus Aldridge's commitment to defense.
Aldridge is holding players he defends to 41.7% shooting overall and 46.7% within six feet from the basket. With Booker's offensive struggles lately, it's not the night to take a chance on him against San Antonio.
Manu Ginobili, SG, San Antonio Spurs
FanDuel Price: $3,900
In the same game, Manu Ginobili could easily become a landmine tonight, but that is no fault of his own.
The Spurs are on the front end of a back-to-back tonight against the lowly Brooklyn Nets. They play tomorrow against the Toronto Raptors in what will almost surely be a tougher game. Gregg Popovich might choose to lessen Ginobili's minutes tonight as a precaution.
No announcements have been made as of this morning, but the Spurs do not need Ginobili in this game. They will need him tomorrow, especially with Tony Parker banged up, but it should be the Patty Mills show -- along with the rest of the Spurs' younger players -- against the Nets.
