3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target on Wednesday 4/27/22

Jordan Montgomery is in a smash spot against the O's. Which other players should you lock in tonight?

Just like in other sports, the focal point of your daily fantasy baseball lineups will be your high-salary studs. These guys take up by far the biggest chunk of your cap space, but they also offer the highest ceiling. And in the case of pitchers, the high-salary options typically come with the highest floors, too.

For hitters, we're looking for guys with big numbers, strong matchups, and with players around them that are likely to produce, as well, increasing our chances for runs and RBI. For pitchers, we want big strikeout numbers, while the ability to go deep in a game and pick up a win is also valuable.

With your high-salary picks playing such a big role in your lineup, you need to be right on these guys, so let's take a look at a few top-end options you can count on to anchor your lineup today.

Jordan Montgomery, SP, New York Yankees ($7,800)

This slate offers some interesting arms. At the top of the salary pool, we have guys like Shohei Ohtani ($10,500) and Joe Ryan ($9,200), both of whom are capable of big days. But I prefer Jordan Montgomery, especially once you factor in the salary discount he offers.

Montgomery checks a lot of boxes. He loads up against a Baltimore Orioles team that has the third-highest strikeout rate (26.3%) and a league-worst .091 ISO. The matchup is there.

And Montgomery has the tools to take advantage. In 2021, he posted a 24.5% strikeout rate and 13.7% swinging-strike rate, the latter of which was a career-best clip. He also limited hitters to a measly .290 wOBA at Yankee Stadium.

We project Montgomery for 31.9 FanDuel points, the second-most on the slate.

Anthony Rizzo, 1B, New York Yankees ($3,500)

Using our heat map, we can see that there aren't a ton of gaudy implied team totals on this main slate. The New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays are the only teams with an implied total above 4.4 runs.

I like the Yanks as a potential blowup offense.

Veteran slugger Anthony Rizzo has been very solid this season for the Bronx Bombers, and a matchup with Tyler Wells should help him keep up his recent run of form. Wells has struggled so far this season with a 15.4% strikeout rate and 10.3% walk rate, which ain't a great combo.

This feels like point chasing after Rizzo's three-bomb day on Tuesday, and he'll surely be popular. But Rizzo is in a spot to produce another big game.

Ozzie Albies, 2B, Atlanta Braves ($4,100)

In one of the other best offensive spots of the day, Ozzie Albies looks ready to crush.

The Braves' second baseman is projected for 13.8 FanDuel points thanks to a tantalizing matchup against Mark Leiter Jr.

Leiter doesn't have an arsenal we need to be scared of. In 121 1/3 career innings, he's allowed 2.00 homers per nine, and lefties have popped him for a .496 slugging percentage, which is great news for the switch-hitting Albies.

The Braves boast a slate-leading 4.89 implied total, and Albies is a great way to get in on the fun.
