Why a 43-Yard Extra Point Makes Little Mathematical Sense
The National Football League is talking about changing the extra point, and one of those fixes could see the point after touchdown move to the 25-yard line, creating a 42- to 43-yard field goal for the point. Why? Well, there's a 99.7% conversion rate for current extra points in the NFL, and moving the line would create fewer automatic points for teams.
But as numberFire Chief Analyst Keith Goldner points out, all of this movement is simply going to force teams to go for two each and every time they score a touchdown. At least, that's what the math says.
