Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions

FanDuel Price: $7,800
numberFire Projected Points: 20.44

Matthew Stafford hasn't been much of a stud this season, but since he’s too expensive to go in our bargain column, it’s worth mentioning how good of a play he is this weekend.

Why? Because smart fantasy players target quarterbacks against the Saints' league-worst pass defense. Despite holding rookie Jameis Winston to under 200 yards passing last weekend, the Saints have given up, on average, 23.3 fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. That's four points per game higher than the Baltimore Ravens, the leagues' second-worst team in points allowed to quarterbacks.

With the highest over/under of the weekend (51 points) and the Saints projected as 3-point favorites, the Lions very well may be in a position where they have to play catch up, forcing Stafford to air it out in the Superdome. And with Calvin Johnson coming off one of the worst performances in his career in Week 14, the once-very-and-still-sometimes-very productive Stafford-to-Megatron connection might be forced more frequently than it has been this season, which would (hopefully) bring with it an added benefit of a fantasy points explosion.

With an inept running game and the highest pass-to-run ratio in the league, the Lions are a passing team going up against a terrible pass defense with the highest projected point total of the weekend. There isn't much more you need to know. Roster Stafford in all formats.
