Fitzmagic Has Probably Come to an End

The fun had to end at some point. Unfortunately for Ryan Fitzpatrick, it ended this week against an elite Chicago Bears defense. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers benched Fitzpatrick during the 48-10 loss, replacing him with former-starter Jameis Winston.

The Fitzmagic era might be over, but we should still be optimistic about the Bucs offense going forward. As Josh Hermsmeyer pointed out, Winston has been a better quarterback than Fitzpatrick when we zoom out and evaluate them from the perspective of their respective careers. The first three weeks of the 2018 season were a wild ride for the Bucs, but Winston's higher career yards per attempt, completion rate and touchdown rate should keep this offense rolling.

Frankly, Fitzpatrick's supporting cast has been excellent this year. Mike Evans has been doing his usual thing, but DeSean Jackson has bounced back in a big way and O.J. Howard and Chris Godwin have enjoyed second-year breakouts. Winston, who has been a better quarterback in his career than Fitzpatrick, should thrive with similar weapons.

Winston's one half of football in Week 4 was unexciting (he completed 16 of 20 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions), but keep in mind that it came against what's shaping up to be one of the best defenses in the league. He should be a QB1 in fantasy next week against a struggling Atlanta Falcons defense.
