Jimmy Garoppolo Might Be Done For The Year

In the midst of the exciting shootout between the Chiefs and 49ers, something tragic befell the San Francisco team: starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered what appears to be a season-ending knee injury.

This is obviously terrible news for the team, and for 49ers players in fantasy football. It will be much harder to trust 49ers pass-catchers like George Kittle, Marquise Goodwin and Pierre Garcon, but there might be some upside for the running backs. Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard loves to target his running backs.

Through seven weeks in 2017, Carlos Hyde racked up 56 targets from Beathard. That was more than he'd ever had in a single season, even dating back through college. If Beathard does indeed take over the starting duties, expect boosts to Matt Breida and Alfred Morris in PPR formats.

The rest of the team clearly takes a hit without their star quarterback, as Beathard led the Niners to just one win through seven games last year, but Beathard's presence provides a sneaky floor for the 49ers' running backs.
