Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears

Mitchell Trubisky enters 2018 with all the trimmings that come with a fantasy sleeper primed to feast. Trubisky is currently the QB27, coming off the board in the 14th round.

He languished last season under former offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains’ predictable and yawn-inspiring play calling. Fresh off coordinating Alex Smith to a top-five fantasy finish, new head coach Matt Nagy’s arrival could not come at a better time for Trubisky.

The Chicago Bears only had 473 passing attempts as a team last year, which ranked dead last in the league. With the offensive-minded Nagy at the helm and an improved defensive unit putting the ball back in the Bears’ hands, that passing volume should get a bump and Trubisky's production should follow.

Despite working with a receiving corps filled with second-string players and NFL journeymen, Trubisky still ranked 10th in deep ball completion percentage and 16th in play-action completion percentage, per PlayerProfiler. The additions of Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel, and Trey Burton are a major upgrade to the Bears’ skill positions, which should help Trubisky improve further on those metrics.

Trubisky’s hidden asset is his rushing ability. In his rookie year, Trubisky was a top 13 quarterback in rushing attempts (41), rushing yards (248), red zone carries (11), and rushing touchdowns (2). With Nagy’s help, the similarly mobile Smith was able to finish as a top seven quarterback in rushing attempts (60) and rushing yards (355) in 2017. Look for Nagy to use Trubisky’s skillset en route to similar success.

With the needle firmly pointing north, Trubisky is set to quickly climb the mountain of fantasy quarterbacks this season. --Derek Brown
