Buy: Joe Mixon, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals rookie Joe Mixon has handled 21 touches in each of his past two games after notching just 21 total in his first two contests, so his role in the offense is certainly trending in the right direction. Yet Mixon has struggled to find room behind a much-maligned Cincinnati offensive line -- per Pro Football Focus, no offensive line has opened up fewer yards before contact per (0.30). (The league average is 1.40.)

This had led to subpar NEP scores across the board, including a -0.14 Rushing NEP per play and a 34.62% Success Rate, both firmly below the league average.

Given all the negative indicators, why should you risk buying him? Well, because 230-pound men aren’t supposed to move like Mixon, who has legit 4.4 speed, explosive burst, and the flexibility of a much smaller back. Plus the Bengals could conceivably cut bait with Jeremy Hill, whose contract expires after the 2017 season, so the backfield could be Mixon's alone.

The production has been poor, no doubt, but don’t forget that not all rookie running backs hit the ground running like Kareem Hunt. Talents like Le'Veon Bell, Melvin Gordon, and Devonta Freeman all struggled out of the gate to start their careers. Fantasy owners sometimes need to be patient and allow a player time to get acclimated.

If his owner in your league lacks that patience, Mixon has the natural ability to be a top-shelf fantasy option.
