Brandon Marshall, WR, New York Giants

Recommending you drop Brandon Marshall cuts me deeply, as he was on the first fantasy football team I ever drafted. Marshall was one of the most dominant receivers of his generation, garnering 1,000 receiving yards in a season eight times, one of only 16 players in NFL history to accomplish such a feat.

But right now, Marshall doesn't look good. At all.

Catching just two of his 10 targets through two games for a measly 27 yards, his rapport with quarterback Eli Manning is shaky at best. In fact, the whole New York Giants offense is beleaguered with an inability to protect Manning, along with a currently ailing Odell Beckham unable to command too much attention.

But even if the protection issues improve, and even if Beckham can start moving coverage his way, Marshall will still have to contend with the fact that Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, and Shane Vereen already are getting more targets than he is. Even Roger Lewis has only one fewer target than Marshall. Being the fifth or sixth option on a down-and-out offense seems like a recipe for fantasy heartache.

If you want to hang your hat on the fact that Marshall got a couple of red zone targets and played the second-most snaps among all receivers last night, go ahead. But if I've got the option, I'm going to grab Jermaine Kearse off waivers, leaving my once fruitful fantasy football relationship with Marshall in the past.
