The Los Angeles Rams Led the NFL With 46 Points

Last season, the Los Angeles Rams scored at least 40 fewer points than any other team in the league. They managed more than 21 points just twice all season, and failed to score more than 10 points nine different times.

Much of the blame fell on the shoulders of their rookie signal-caller. Among 39 quarterbacks with 100 or more drop backs, Jared Goff ranked dead last with -0.28 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back.

In Sean McVay's head coaching debut, the Rams scored their most points in a game since 2014, and this was just the third time they scored at least 40 points since 2006. Goff looked like a new man, completing 21 of 29 passes for 306 yards and a touchdown, while his 0.49 Passing NEP per drop back ranked third among quarterbacks with 10-plus drop backs.

Todd Gurley continued to struggle on the ground, picking up just 40 yards on 19 carries and boasting a -0.19 Rushing NEP per attempt. He did perform better in the passing game, though, catching 5 passes for 56 yards.

The Rams' leading receiver was Cooper Kupp, who caught 4 passes for 76 yards and touchdown in his first NFL game, catapulting himself into consideration for fantasy football lineups moving forward.

Yes, Los Angeles did face the Indianapolis Colts, who finished 2016 ranked as the fourth-worst in Defensive Adjusted NEP per play, but it is clear that this Rams offense is much improved from last year's version.
