Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams

FanDuel Price: $7,900
Salary Change: Up $1,900

This is where the rubber meets the road. The immovable object versus the unstoppable force. Any other cliches we can use here? Todd Gurley has underwhelmed all season, but he’ll get a matchup with the league’s worst run defense on Saturday against San Francisco.

This season, the 49ers are allowing 31 attempts, 156 yards, and 1.6 touchdowns per game on the ground to opposing running backs. That has resulted in 31.4 FanDuel points per game, which actually increased after last week’s 139-yard, three touchdown performance from Devonta Freeman.

Gurley, on the other hand, has yet to top 85 rushing yards in a single game this season and has eclipsed 15.8 FanDuel points (the necessary threshold for cash game value this weekend) just once.

Despite the lack of production and the ineptitude of his offense, Gurley’s salary has actually increased a whopping $1,900 in Week 16. History hasn’t been kind to players with this type of salary increase -- since the beginning of 2014, running backs with a high salary (at least $7,500) whose price has increased $1,500 or more have reached cash game value just 33 percent of the time.

With rookie quarterback Jared Goff questionable with a concussion, third-stringer Sean Mannion may draw the start on Saturday. That’s just further reason to fade Gurley in all formats this weekend, despite the incredible matchup.
