3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 4/7/17
In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?
Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it only takes one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference from winning or losing your contests.
Andrew Wiggins, SF, Minnesota Timberwolves
FanDuel Price: $7,400
Wiggins has had trouble going against Hayward in the past. In 10 regular season matchups, Wiggins owns a 40.4% shooting percentage against Hayward and he has scored more than 30 FanDuel points only once.
The Jazz are holding opposing small forwards to just 0.66 FanDuel points per minute this year, which is the best mark in the league. Combine that with this game being in Utah and Hayward holding players he defends to just 42.1% shooting on the year and Wiggins should have another tough night.
Willy Hernangomez, C, New York Knicks
FanDuel Price: $5,100
Willy Hernangomez is another player who has a tough road to making value tonight as he travels to face the Memphis Grizzlies and Marc Gasol. Even with the news that the New York Knicks could shut down Kristaps Porzingis, it won't be enough to help Hernangomez against one of the league's best defensive centers.
Gasol is holding players he defends to just 45.7% shooting and just 52.5% shooting within six feet of the basket. As a team, Memphis is holding centers to just 0.82 FanDuel points per minute, which is also the best in the league against the center position.
Hernangomez has also started to slump some on offense as of late. The rookie big man is shooting just 22-for-54 from the floor in his last five games, and if Memphis locks in defensively, Hernangomez is an avoidable player tonight.
Yogi Ferrell, PG, Dallas Mavericks
FanDuel Price: $4,700
We still do not know the status of Seth Curry tonight, who missed Wednesday's game for the Dallas Mavericks. However, with J.J. Barea and Devin Harris still getting solid minutes lately, Yogi Ferrell's upside is somewhat limited.
He is also limited by his matchup tonight against the San Antonio Spurs. As a team, the Spurs are holding opposing point guards to just 0.82 FanDuel points per minute.
Ferrell also struggled in his last game against the Spurs. It was his first as a Mav, but he was still limited to nine points and seven assists in 36 minutes. Assuming he doesn't see that many minutes tonight, you can leave Ferrell off your DFS lineups.
