Nikola Mirotic Joins the Bomb Squad

Like Marc Gasol, if you happen to own Nikola Mirotic in season-long leagues, you appreciated this year’s trade deadline extravaganza.

The move that results in Mirotic heading north to join the league’s top team in Milwaukee works well based on the simple principle of this: the Bucks take a ton of three-pointers and Mirotic loves to shoot it from deep.

An incredible 41 percent of the Bucks’ shots come from beyond the arc (trailing only the Houston Rockets), which combines perfectly with a guy like Mirotic who ranks eighth in the league in three-point shooting (among those taking at least seven shots from deep per game). Adding a guy like Mirotic increasingly spreads the floor, adds another sniper from long range, and turns up the team’s threat level. News flash: the Bucks are really good.

Mirotic is currently banged up with a calf injury so we’ll have to wait and see what the fit ultimately looks like, but he should see plenty of minutes as a top option off the bench. It’s unfortunate we may see less of D.J. Wilson (who I crush on), but the Bucks shipping out Thon Maker could change that. We’ll see.

We may not see him until after the break, but Mirotic and the Bucks face Dallas tonight, followed by games against Orlando, Chicago, and Indiana.
