Fantasy Basketball: 10 Players to Target on Tanking Teams

Larry Nance, Jr., Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are probably the first team we think of when it comes to tanking in the second half. And why not? They have the most to lose by winning -- if that makes sense.

If the Lakers' 2017 first-round pick falls outside the top three, it is automatically conveyed to the Philadelphia 76ers, who obtained the pick through the Phoenix Suns and the Steve Nash trade. If the Lakers are bad -- or lucky -- enough to get into the top three of the lottery, the oh-so-valuable pick remains with L.A.

If the Lakers want to give themselves a better chance to lose, they're going to go youth over experience. Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov will be pushed aside in favor of more minutes for Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr. (when he returns from injury).

While Randle's already displayed his fantasy potential, Nance has been overlooked for the most part. He's 84th in Yahoo's rankings, but he's owned in just 17% of fantasy leagues. That means he's a seventh-round value when healthy.

On a per-game basis, he's been valuable due to his efficiency from the field (58.4%) and on the boards (5.5), along with his ability to minimize turnovers (0.8). If given more minutes, his per-36 numbers of 11.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.9 steals and one block suggest an increase of 10 spots in value.

And if you're punting threes, by chance, Nance's per-36 value jumps all the way up to a third-rounder.
