Jeff Banister dismissed by Rangers on Friday
The Texas Rangers announced on Friday that manager Jeff Banister has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.
Bench coach Don Wakamatsu will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. Banister went 325-313 in his three-plus seasons as Rangers' manager. The team was in last place in the AL West with a 64-88 record this season. Banister won the 2015 AL Manager of the Year after guiding the team to a 95-67 record.
