Steven Matz goes eight scoreless in Mets' win
New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz worked eight scoreless innings Wednesday in the Mets' 2-0 defeat of the Washington Nationals.
Matz carved his way through the Bryce Harper-less lineup in Washington, yielding just four hits and a walk while striking out seven. He did actually face Harper in a pinch-hit situation in the bottom of the eighth and got him to ground out. Matz, 24, boasts a 7-1 record, 2.36 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 50/9 K/BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings (eight starts) this season. He'll look to stay ace-like next time out against the Chicago White Sox.
Matz now owns a 2.79 xFIP and a 25.8 strikeout percentage this season -- impressive totals. Our models currently project him to record a 4.08 ERA and a 19.6 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
