Cardinals place Steven Matz (shoulder) on 15-day IL
The St. Louis Cardinals placed starting pitcher Steven Matz on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a left shoulder impingement.
Matz was pulled from Sunday's start against the Pittsburgh Pirates after throwing just four pitches. He will be eligible to return June 7, but it's possible that the left-hander will remain out longer. The Cardinals recalled fellow southpaw Matthew Liberatore from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding roster move.
Excluding Sunday's abbreviated start, Matz is averaging 24.4 FanDuel points per outing this season. He owns a 6.03 ERA with a much more encouraging 3.92 xERA while registering a 26.8% strikeout rate and a 4.9% walk rate.
