Cubs' Adbert Alzolay coming up Thursday
Chicago Cubs pitching prospect Adbert Alzolay will be called up from Triple-A Iowa before Thursday's game against the New York Mets.
Alzolay has spun a stellar 1.93 ERA with 40 strikeouts and 3 walks in 28 innings over his last five starts in Triple-A. He will likely make his major league debut in the middle innings Thursday behind opener Tyler Chatwood, but the 24-year-old right-hander could see real starts while Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) is out.
Alzolay posted a 4.00 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 49 K and 8 BB over 36 total innings (seven starts) in the minors this season.
