3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Wednesday 7/7/21

Stacks are the backbone of cashing daily fantasy baseball lineups. Correlation drives upside, creating the potential to place high or even win GPPs when your selected stacks explode offensively.

This column will do the digging and the dirty work to determine which stacks are worth rostering each day. Scoring upside will fuel the stacks that get the nod. Sometimes that will lead to chalky selections, but contrarian stacks will get their fair share of love too.

Let's take a look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

Toronto Blue Jays

I don't believe Matt Harvey has made a start this year during a day I cover stacks in which I've failed to suggest stacking against him. I'm not ending that streak today. He has a 9.15 ERA and 5.33 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) in his last five starts. However, Harvey's struggles aren't a recent development with a 7.58 ERA in 143.2 innings pitched since 2019, per FanGraphs.

Harvey's a mess against all hitters. Lefties have recorded a .338 weighted on-base average (wOBA) against him this year. Yet, righties have been even more lethal, recording a .564 slugging percentage and .408 wOBA.

The righty-laden Toronto Blue Jays should have a field day tonight against Harvey. You can stack them from top to bottom. Unsurprisingly, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($4,600) is my favorite option. This year, he's unloaded on righties for a .434 on-base percentage, .369 isolated power (ISO), and 205 weighted runs created plus (wRC+). Middle infielders Marcus Semien ($4,200) and Bo Bichette ($3,900) are elite inclusions in a Toronto stack, too.

However, I want to call your attention to George Springer ($3,700). His season got off to a late start because of a pair of injured list stints. However, he's raking in his return. In 47 plate appearances since being reinstated from the injured list, he has a .383 on-base percentage, .263 ISO, and 142 wRC+.

San Diego Padres

Facing Patrick Corbin isn't as favorable as drawing Harvey. But, having said that, the San Diego Padres aren't likely to be upset about a matchup with the southpaw. Dating back to last year, Corbin has a 5.18 ERA, 4.50 SIERA, and has yielded 1.59 homers per nine innings in 27 starts lasting 153 innings.

The left-handed hurler hasn't had many answers for right-handed batters. The 296 righties he's faced this year have creamed him for a .511 slugging percentage and .368 wOBA.

This will likely come as a shocker, but Fernando Tatis Jr. ($4,500) is my favorite player in this stack. The electric youngster has a .385 ISO and 143 wRC+ against southpaws this year.

Fellow member of the left side of the infield, third baseman Manny Machado ($4,000), is an elite option as well. He's scorching hot over the last 30 days, lacing the ball for a .315 ISO and 168 wRC+ while reaching base at a hearty clip with a .390 on-base percentage.

Tommy Pham ($3,300) is dialed in, too. In the last 30 days, he has a .388 on-base percentage, .222 ISO, and 150 wRC+. All three members of the trio call a top-four spot in the lineup home, providing correlation for stacking them together.

San Francisco Giants

Another night, another righty on the bump opposing the San Francisco Giants. However, unlike last night when they faced an above-average pitcher in the form of Adam Wainwright, tonight, Johan Oviedo is a below-average pitcher. Oviedo owns a 5.14 ERA for the year and a 5.04 ERA in his last five starts.

The right-hander hasn't exactly been deadly against righties, allowing a .313 wOBA to them. Although, he's been considerably worse against lefties, yielding a .370 wOBA to them. He'll have his hands full against San Francisco's lineup that's chock full of left-handed hitters near the top of the order.

It starts out of the gate with LaMonte Wade Jr ($2,900) in the leadoff spot and Mike Yastrzemski ($3,200) from the two-hole. The former has a .276 ISO and 155 wRC+ against righties this year. Meanwhile, the latter has a .316 ISO and 146 wRC+ against them.

Alex Dickerson ($2,500) and Brandon Crawford ($3,300) are two more lefties who project to hit in the fop five of San Francisco's order. Both are viable stacking options. Although, I much prefer Crawford to Dickerson, even considering the salary discrepancy. The veteran shortstop has reinvented himself at the dish this year, and the results speak for themselves, with a .375 on-base percentage, .286 ISO, and 156 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.
