Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Michael Pineda is coming off of a big performance but has an ERA over five and is pitching against one of the most explosive offenses on the slate. With plenty of other directions to go at pitcher, risking it with Pineda won't seem as necessary today for daily fantasy players.
Why You Should Use Him:
If you are purely looking for upside and have no problem potentially having your entire lineup wrecked by one player, Pineda is your man! Pineda's 10.75 strikeouts per nine innings mark on the season ranks sixth among active starting pitchers, and he's been pitching even better lately. Over his past seven starts, Pineda has secured 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings, along with a 3.79 ERA. However, mixed in those dominant starts are two games of five earned runs and only 18 FanDuel points, proving the risk attached when considering Pineda.
Aside from his boom-or-bust nature, his opponent tonight, the Astros offer quite a bit of upside. Houston ranks 4th in strikeout rate against righties, although they also rank 10th in wOBA against them.
Vegas has Pineda faring pretty well in this matchup, projecting Houston for just four runs. He isn't close to a cash game option but does make an excellent tournament play.
