On the other side of the implied total spectrum, German Marquez is pitching at Coors Field, and as you might expect, the opposing Arizona Diamondbacks have the second-highest implied total on the board (4.67), behind only the Colorado Rockies.
Normally that might be enough to gloss over Marquez and move onto the next guy, but he's been on a ridiculous roll of late. He's now thrown eight straight quality starts, producing a 2.24 ERA, 2.27 FIP, 33.2% strikeout rate, and 5.5% walk rate. Half of those starts have come at Coors Field, and he's faced tough teams like the Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros over this stretch, so it hasn't all been the result of a cupcake schedule.
Furthermore, the Diamondbacks aren't the most intimidating opponent, carrying an 81 wRC+ and 23.7% strikeout rate against righties. With Jacob deGrom's start possibly getting rained out and Corey Kluber costing an arm and a leg, dropping down to Marquez makes a lot of sense. There's obvious risk in any Coors start, no matter how hot the pitcher is, but Marquez has demonstrated the upside the hang with the big boys.
