3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 6/8/18

Christian Villanueva, 3B, San Diego Padres

Caleb Smith is a strong value play at pitcher tonight, but he's also inconsistent when his control is off (11.2% walk rate), which can send the wheels flying off at times. He's also allowing a fair bit of hard contact (36.7% rate) with just a 28.7% ground-ball rate, so a dinger or two is never out of the question.

The San Diego Padres are almost never stacking material, and even more so in Marlins Park, but they do have a few lefty-mashers in Christian Villanueva, Hunter Renfroe, and Franmil Reyes. Villanueva is the cheapest of the bunch, and 11 of his 15 dingers have come off southpaws. The career sample-size versus lefties remains small at just 75 plate appearances, but it's hard to not like the early returns with a 44.7% hard-hit rate, .544 wOBA, and .571 ISO. Those are unsustainable for sure, but it looks like the kid has some legit pop.

With only a limited selection of value options at third base, you could do worse than take a flyer on Villanueva in search of that next home run.
