If you look at Mike Foltynewicz's season stats, not a whole lot stands out. The 25.3% hard-hit rate looks good, but otherwise, a 4.11 SIERA and 21.3% strikeout rate aren't particularly noteworthy.

But Foltynewicz might be finally putting everything together. Over his last two starts, he has a 30% strikeout rate, 4% walk rate, 54.5% ground-ball rate and 15.2% hard-hit rate.

Is it merely a small sample size? Maybe, but this is a pitcher with a fastball that hit triple-digits last year, and he is getting up to 98 this season.

Jedd Gyorko has been swinging a hot bat lately, but he is still prone to strikeouts (24.7% rate). His price is slowly creeping up, as well, making him less of the stellar value play he was not so long ago.

Ultimately, we don't know yet if the recent play of Foltynewciz is here to stay, but there's enough smoke here that it's probably best to avoid Gyorko and find value elsewhere.
