Dan Straily, Miami Marlins

A poor debut showing against what looks like a dynamite Washington Nationals offense might have streamers off the scent of Miami Marlins starter Dan Straily, but the veteran righty has a good opportunity to reclaim his groove against an Atlanta Braves team whose team-wide hard-contact rate since the start of last season is tied for fourth-worst across the majors.

While the swinging-strike rate on Straily's mid-80s slider has tailed off since it peaked at almost 22 percent in 2014, the pitch is still a plus run-suppressing asset, limiting hitters to 56-percent below-average production last season, per Fangraphs' weighted runs created metric. It helps that the Braves have been league-worst by some margin against the slider since last season, and the pitcher-friendly confines of the Marlins' home park should provide a soothing tonic for Straily's tendency to surrender the longball.

It's worth noting that the New York Mets lineup that will round out the two-start week for Straily is a bit more formidable, though they like Atlanta tend to struggle mightily against the slider. Cautious mixed leaguers with daily lineup changes might consider benching Straily for the weekend tilt, while in leagues with weekly locks, Straily's appeal will largely depend on league depth and appetite for risk
