Charlie Morton, Houston Astros

Charlie Morton's added velocity during his brief but intriguing 17-plus innings of work with the Philadelphia Phillies last season has made the 33-year-old righty a somewhat chic late-round gamble despite his age and lack of pedigree. Last week, Morton made good on the draft-day faith in his first start in a Houston Astros uniform, working around a Jean Segura homer to limit the Seattle Mariners to two earned runs across six innings.

The veteran hurler will square off with the Mariners once again on Monday, the first of a projected two starts for him next week. While the Mariners' recent familiarity with Morton might make this turn a little more challenging, Seattle's high grounder percentage (a top-six mark league wide) should still spell an advantage for Morton, who generated a 60-plus percent ground-ball rate with both his two-seam and his cutter during his last full season of work in 2015.

A weekend date in the Oakland Athletics' spacious Coliseum in his second start should only sweeten the pot.
