Fantasy Baseball: Late-Round Targets at Each Position for 2017

Second Base: Devon Travis

Outside of Josh Donaldson, pretty much every Blue Jays hitter is cheap heading into 2017. There may be no player more mis-priced than Devon Travis.

Having some reservations around Travis is fully logical given that he's yet to make his spring debut. Travis had offseason knee surgery, and his recovery from that has taken longer than expected, according to Rob Longley of The National Post. However, he did see minor-league action last week as a designated hitter, and he's set to play second base some time this week.

It's still possible that Travis misses time to start the season, but that should also help to keep his fantasy cost low. You just may want to look elsewhere if you truly have no other options at the position on your roster.

After returning from shoulder surgery last year, Travis upped his hard-hit rate to 29.2% and his fly-ball rate to 34.4%, both significant jumps over his rookie 2015 numbers. A league-average strikeout rate allows him to hold a respectable batting average, meaning he'll contribute in each category outside of stolen bases, though there's the possibility for a few of those if he regains the aggression he had in the minors.

The Blue Jays have had Travis bat leadoff at times each of the past two years, and that's in his range of outcomes again this year. If he can get healthy and win that job, he'll be a complete steal. Even while accounting for those unknowns, he's easily worth his 235.4 ADP at the moment.
