Fabian Schar, Defender, Newcastle United

Salary: $7,500

Schar is tied with Brighton’s Shane Duffy as the top-priced defender on the slate, and he has earned that position by posting the highest average (24.76 FanDuel points) among all defenders that have made more than one appearance this season. Schar has totaled over 18 FanDuel points in 10 straight starts after scoring 13 FanDuel points in his previous match against the Hammers and producing 15 shots (5 on the road) with three goals on his home pitch over that span.

As mentioned above with Rondon, the Hammers are the slight favorite, per oddsmakers, and have a 82.1% chance of netting a goal, a feat they have accomplished in four straight -- and six of their last seven -- home matches. West Ham currently sit in 10th in the table and have produced the eighth-most points on their home pitch, but do not relinquish a large number of defensive actions. They have allowed the sixth-fewest interceptions (10.21), sixth-fewest tackles (15.86), fifth-fewest blocked shots (3.07) and fifth-fewest clearances (21.57) per home match this season.

If deciding between the two top-priced defenders on the slate, DFS players should give Duffy the edge as he’s facing a Huddersfield squad that does relinquish a large number of defensive statistics, not to mention Brighton’s higher probability to maintain a clean sheet.
