pretty hard to answer this with a right answer...gotta move on at some point, but at the same time a day later, those teammates cannot possibly be focused on football...i say move it to a Thurs. Double header or something, but there is no right call IMO

As callous as this may sound, I think that the NFL would never even consider cancelling the game under these circumstances. Although this is a new set of circumstances, previous events that have threatened Sunday's games in the past have not resulted in cancellations. The reason is money. Redistribution of funds secondary to ticket refunds, lost wages and potential money lost from air time secondary to advertisements create an untenable situation with regard to the league's bottom line. Although the Chiefs would be significantly hit, their loss would be partially subsidized.

All in all, I think you're doing a disservice to the players and the fans to trot out a grief-stricken team in the throes of bereavement to play a game. Assuming that there is no cancellation (which would be my choice), I think the best option would be to move it to Monday and give the players an extra day.

No, I don't think so.. They are Professionals.. It's their job. Yeah losing a close friend who shoots his girlfriend then himself hurts. Death sucks.. but they could do something for him during the week. they should be out their for their themselves and Fans on Sunday.. Cancelling or postponing the game won't change their mind set much.

agreed anthony but the fact that it happened at arrowhead and people involved with the team witnessed him killing himself makes this an entirely different situation.

I believe that the players on the team should decide. They knew him best and from what I understand, they want to play. If the players/coaches had wanted it to be delayed, then it would have been interesting to see how the NFL would've reacted.
I wil say this though, even though the Giants thorougly outplayed Green Bay in last years playoffs, at least part of their poor performance can be attributed to the fact that Coach Philbin's son died that week. These men aren't robots, it has to be hard to focus on blocking and tackling when faced with a sudden, traumatic death. Bottom line, my sympathies are with the victim's families and that of the player's family, who may be stigmatized by others. So we'll be including the victim's extended family in our prayers at church tommorrow.

No. Even though neither team impacts the playoff picture, it'd be best for the Chiefs and the Chiefs' organization to play the game.
