Rams want to use Tavon Austin more as a deep threat

The Los Angeles Rams want wide receiver Tavon Austin to become more of a downfield threat similar to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout DeSean Jackson.

What It Means:

The two wideouts ran similar forties coming out of college, with Jackson turning in a 4.35 and Austin blazing a 4.34. New Rams head coach Sean McVay has plenty of experience working with Jackson after their time together in Washington. He should be able to utilize Austin's talents more effectively than Jeff Fisher did, but that's not saying much.

Out of the 41 wide receivers to see 100-plus targets last season, Austin's 0.27 Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) per target were by far the least in the group. Next closest was Jeremy Kerley with 0.45 Reception NEP per target.
