Dallas inks receiver James Washington to one-year deal
The Dallas Cowboys have signed wide receiver James Washington to a one-year contract.
The former second-round pick out of Oklahoma State never really caught on with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was forced to play behind all of prime Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson, and Chase Claypool in his tenure with the team. A fresh start with the Cowboys could benefit Washington; with Amari Cooper gone to Cleveland, Cedric Wilson off to the Miami, and Michael Gallup recovering from a Week 17 torn ACL, Washington could see immediate playing time in Dallas.
Washington's best season with the Steelers surprisingly came with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges at the helm. With Ben Roethlisberger sidelined by a serious elbow injury for most of the 2019 season, Washington caught 44 balls for 735 yards and 3 touchdowns. He eventually fell behind both Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool over his next two seasons, but currently figures to start across from CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys this season.
