Panthers' QB3 Kyle Allen to make first career start in finale
Carolina Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen will start Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints.
Cam Newton (shoulder) and Taylor Heinicke (elbow) are both out, so Allen will make his first NFL start in Sunday's season finale. The undrafted rookie played a series in Week 15 and went 4-of-4 for 38 yards. Garrett Gilbert, who was signed on Wednesday, will be Allen's backup.
Allen completed 358-of-580 passes (61.7 percent) for 4,283 yards (7.4 yards per attempt) with 37 touchdowns and 18 interceptions over 24 games for Texas A&M and Houston in college.
