3.01: DeAndre Washington, RB, Oakland Raiders

Drafter Comments

"Size isn't everything. Latavius Murray is 6'3" and 230 pounds, yet he had the third-worst rushing Success Rate -- the percentage of positive runs according to our Net Expected Points (NEP) metric -- among running backs with at least 100 carries last season. Washington is 5'8", 204 pounds, but don't mistake him for a scatback. He's strong enough to run through arm tackles and tough enough to go between the tackles. He's also a very good receiver out of the backfield. The Raiders have built one of the better offensive lines in the game and possess a potent passing attack to keep defenses on their heels, so the situation is ideal. If Murray falters, Washington could be a fantasy stud." -- Stan Son

Other Comments

"Love this pick. Washington is rapidly rising up draft boards and for good reason. Washington should initially carve out a role as a receiving back, but there isn't much on the depth chart to prevent him from seeing significant snaps with Murray in the final year of his contract." -- Tyler Buecher

"Washington has been a player whose value has climbed over the past few weeks. Then landing spot is certainly nice, as Oakland has made a lot of noise this offseason about lessening Latavius Murray's workload. Despite his size, he runs extremely hard and can be very tough to bring down. I'm not sure if how he'll fare between the tackles on a consistent basis, but he can make plays in the passing game." -- Austan Kas

"The Raiders have done a terrific job of building this offense around young quarterback Derek Carr, using a lot of the same spread and up-tempo concepts that he handled well at Fresno State. Washington is running back in that mold, having played in a wide open Texas Tech attack, and he caught at least 30 passes each of his last three years in college. I expect him to be the starter sooner rather than later for Oakland." -- Anthony Amico
