Running Backs

High-Cost Option: Adrian Peterson $6,600

The league leading rusher Adrian Peterson just ran for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns last week, and his priced declined by $700? The Seattle defense used to be something to fear, but 2015's version of the Legion of Boom has turned into a shell of its former self. Nice stat by Rich Hribar in this week's "The Worksheet: Week 13": Seattle has allowed a top-15 running back in four consecutive games and three top-10 scorers. This highly vaunted rush defense by Seattle has proved mortal -- only seventh-best according to our metrics -- as they have given up over 20 fantasy points to opposing running backs in their last four games. Peterson has seen 82.3% of the running back carries on the year and 68.6% of the team's red zone carries. Ownership of Peterson could be down this week given the Seahawks' name, but at $6,600 -- his lowest price of the season -- it's hard to fade All Day.

Mid-Cost Option: DeAngelo Williams $5,600

Speaking of the Seahawks, DeAngelo Williams is coming fresh off a 24.7 fantasy point outing against them, as he was able to find room both on the ground and in the air en route to fantasy success last week. He now gets to take on a visiting Indianapolis Colts defense that is giving up the 11th-most fantasy points to running back this season. They're tied for giving up the fifth-most rushing touchdowns, an area where Williams has excelled despite his limited time as a starter, as only four other running backs have more touchdowns than his six on the year. Averaging over 20 touches per game since getting the starting nod following Le'Veon Bell's injury, Williams presents a great mid-cost option this week with both volume and positive game script in his favor.

Low-Cost Option: David Johnson $3,400

Injuries to the Cardinals have catapulted rookie David Johnson to the top of Arizona's running back depth chart for Week 13. The Rams have been rather stout against running backs (12th-most fantasy points allowed), but have allowed on average 115 rushing yards to running backs over the past four games. At $3,400, there's very little needed from Johnson to reach value in what could be projected as a 20-plus touch week for Johnson. He jumps into an offense where he's already scored 7 offensive touchdowns on just 54 touches. Expect Johnson to be the cash-staple of the week at running back given the projected volume and how efficiently Carson Palmer has been orchestrating this offense.

GPP Wildcard: Jonathan Stewart $5,300

While everyone and their mother is chasing Cam Newton this week, an interesting pivot play off him would be investing in Carolina's rushing attack with Jonathan Stewart. The Saints are nearly just as dreadful defending the run as they are against the pass, giving up the third-most rushing yards and fourth-most fantasy points to running backs on the season. Stewart has had a tremendous turnaround of his season after Week 5, averaging 15.2 fantasy points and over 20 rushing attempts in each game since. We always have to worry about Newton and Mike Tolbert vulturing touchdowns with Stewart, but he offers volume and production in a plus matchup.
