The suspension to Antonio Gates might on the surface appear to benefit Ladarius Green primarily, but offensive coordinator Frank Reich has said that it'll be hard to replace Gates with Green. Rather, Reich noted that Danny Woodhead could be a key in the passing game in the meantime.

Throw in the fact that Melvin Gordon isn't expected to be the workhorse, and it's pretty clear that Woodhead should have a pretty significant role in the Chargers offense, a unit that ranked 11th in per-play efficiency, according to our metrics, last year.

Detroit was, by far, the best run defense in the league according to our metrics last year, but they no longer have Ndamukong Suh or Nick Fairley up front. It'll still be a formidable defense, but Woodhead should have plenty of functions rather than simply running between the tackles in Week 1.
