The Packers and Patriots May Meet Again

Sunday marked a meeting between two of our top-three power-ranked teams, with the number-three team, Green Bay, taking the win.

Because it was such a big game, I thought breaking it down from an advanced analytics (NEP) standpoint would be helpful or interesting. The quarterback battle was won by Aaron Rodgers, who compiled a 17.00 Passing NEP versus Tom Brady's 11.81. The Pats gained a slight edge on the ground - which seemed like a key to victory entering the game, as both teams have struggled against the run this year - while Randall Cobb was the best receiver, per our metrics.

From a win probability perspective, the game was never technically out of Green Bay's favor -- the 4-minute mark in the fourth quarter was when the game was closest. But on a neutral field -- perhaps in the Super Bowl -- who wouldn't want to see this rematch?
